Accident victim had Alzheimer's

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - A 59-year-old Greencastle man who was struck and killed by a car on Social Island Road while riding his bicycle Thursday night was suffering from Alzheimer's disease, the Franklin County coroner said Friday.

Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner said Marvin Samuel Shlein had been known for wandering off on previous occasions. Conner said Shlein died instantly.

Greencastle Police Chief Terry Sanders said a woman called the station around 5:30 Thursday to report Shlein was missing.

Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg, Pa., said Shlein was riding his bicycle east on Social Island Road in the direction of U.S. 11 North when he was struck.

The driver of the car was identified as John Leo Marcoux, 33, of Chambersburg, Neither Marcoux nor Calvin Marcoux, 3, who was in a child safety seat in the car, was injured, police said.

The accident is still under investigation.
