Mail Call for 1/14

January 15, 2003

"I would like to make a public apology to Justin M. I am sorry for everything that I have done. We have stuck with each other through thick and thin. Please come back. Love always."

"I want to thank a good Samaritan for their help. I was doing some after Christmas shopping at Borders Book Store. I came out to my car and found a note on the windshield telling me I had a flat right tire. I would have never noticed it on that side of the car. Since I was heading for Interstate 81, I can only imagine what would have happened. I went straight to a repair shop and found out that I had a nail in my tire. I would like to thank the good Samaritan who left that note. Not many people take time from their hustle and bustle to do such a good deed. Thanks so much."

"There is no doubt that Bush wants to go to war so we can forget about our domestic problems. He is spending our tax dollars so he can finish the war that his father started that was unsuccessful."

"My friends and I waitress at this local buffet restaurant. Our problem is that there is a large group that comes in periodically after their church on Sunday. They are loud and rude. We have told them to quiet down and they just get louder and louder. We are thinking that if they are coming from church, they aren't a good representation, especially when we know the pastor's name and most of the choir. So to all of you, when you come into a restaurant, respect the others who are dining. If you don't have anything nice to say about your pastor and your congregation, don't say anything at all."

"To the person who said that they just received their bank statement in the mail and the bank said that they are no longer sending the canceled checks, they are sending photocopies. This is true and they are also charging you for the checks to come back. I had to pay $35 to receive my checks. The bottom line is, it's anything to make money. The more you give, the more they want and the more they are going to take. They are just plain greedy."

"Here it is 3:15 p.m. in the middle of the week, I am driving along Key Avenue trying to get home from work and I can't get down the street. People are parked on the wrong side of the street, driving in the wrong direction, on the wrong side of the street and they are also double parking and leaving their vehicles. If an emergency vehicle had to get down this street, they would never make it."

"We already have a tax on toilet paper. Save lives, put a higher tax on alcohol and raise fines on drunk drivers."

"If Bill Wivell wants to run the Washington County school system, then why didn't he run for school board instead of commissioner? It sounds to me that he doesn't have much faith in the elected school board."

"I would like to thank Jeff Long of Williamsport for sending your men down when it snows to clean the town lot. You are Johnny on the spot, we believe, and thanks to Amy, Jamie and Judy for being so kind and nice, also for taking their valuable time at work to be nice on the phone. Again, our town is a good town that is kept clean and nice."

"Do we really need a new hospital? I wonder if the citizens of Washington County have figured out that a new hospital will result in higher medical bills?"

"In answer to the question about why no banks are sending checks back. It's not a difficult thing to talk about, all you have to do is look at the front of the envelope and see the postage on the front. Every time you put another piece of paper in the envelope, it ends up costing more. If you think about it, what has postage been doing in the past three or five years now, it goes up."

"I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on getting rid of bats in our attic. We found one and think we may have some more. We want to know how to get rid of them without calling an expensive exterminator."

"As a lifelong Republican, I am more and more embarrassed by the behavior of John Munson and Bill Wivell. Hopefully they will stop getting their names in the headlines and seeking political attention and become the county commissioners that they were elected to be. It's time to stop grandstanding and be a Republican."

"I would also like to have my canceled checks returned from the bank every month instead of those small pages of micro copies that you can't even see, let alone read. The bank says, 'this is how it is done now' and I have no choice in it. Thanks a lot. From a 20-year customer."

"To the person looking for local AA meetings in the area. Call 301-733-1109 for times and places for meetings."

"Regarding an inquiry on how to donate used eye glasses to the Lions Club, call 301-393-9333 and a member of the Hagerstown Lions Club will return your call and tell you how to dispose of or contribute your glasses. The club collects over 10,000 pairs of eyeglasses and lenses a year."

"Can anyone tell me when the 'Candid Camera' show is on TV? I have looked in the TV Guide and I can't seem to find it. So can anyone tell me when it's on and what channel?"

"How can I go about getting a Spiegel's catalog for clothes? I know years ago they used to have Speigal Magazine and I was wondering if they still do?"
