Ruth E. Meiklejohn

Ruth Elinor Meiklejohn, 85, of 10116 Sharpsburg Pike, Hagerstown, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2003, at Somerford House.

Born Aug. 15, 1917, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Mary V. Windsor Symanoskie.

Her husband, Ralph L. Meiklejohn, died in 1990.

She was employed by the federal government at the Naval Gun Factory, retiring after 33 years.

She was a member of Wheaton Masonic Lodge Cedarettes and a past member of Silver Lake Country Club, Leesburg, Fla.

She is survived by one daughter, Joan M. Budny of Hagerstown; one brother, Joseph V. Symanoskie of Arlington, Va.; one granddaughter, Jennifer J. Hagerty of Audubon, Pa.; three grandsons, Joseph M. Hagerty of Warfordsburg, Pa., Jeffrey P. Hagerty of Audubon, and Jonathan M. Hagerty of Keymar, Md.; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown. The Rev. Allan F. Weatherholt will officiate.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ray W. Huntzberry Sr.

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. - Ray Woodrow Huntzberry Sr., 87, of Prince Frederick, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Georgetown University Hospital.

Born Oct. 1, 1915, in Boonsboro, he was the son of the late William H. and Catherine Martz Huntzberry.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Irene Huntzberry; three sons, Paul L. Huntzberry of North East, Md., Ray W. Huntzberry of Clinton, Md., and Larry Huntzberry of Decatur, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Rausch Funeral Home, Port Republic, Md. Pastor John Pappas will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Brooklyn Park, Md.

Dorothy A. Lowans

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Dorothy A. Lowans, 87, of ManorCare Health Services, and formerly of 459 Hollywell Ave., died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at ManorCare.

Born March 25, 1915, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Daniel F. and Carrie B. Worthington Aller.

Her husband, George E. Lowans, died Nov. 4, 1982. They were married Feb. 3, 1939.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Christian Life Assembly of God Church in Chambersburg, where she taught the Preschool Sunday School class.

She is survived by one daughter, Patsy Clemons of Chambersburg; one son, the Rev. James Lowans of Waverly, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Christian Life Assembly of God Church, Chambersburg. The Revs. Joseph F. Pickens and LeRoy W. Wiley will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg; and Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the church.

Flo-Raleigh Kerr

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Flo-Raleigh Kerr, 69, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at City Hospital.

Born June 4, 1933, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Frank Alexander and Flora May Williams Hamilton.

She was a retired school teacher.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Shepherdstown, W.Va.

She is survived by four daughters, Mary D. Wolf of Harmony, Md., Cassandra J. Hovermale of Winchester, Va., Violet R. Kesecker of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Florence A. Lucas of Martinsburg; one son, Charles C. Kerr of Martinsburg; one brother, Dr. Frank A. Hamilton of Martinsburg; one sister, Betsy J.K. Cohen of New Smyrna, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one son, Samuel D. Kerr; and two granddaughters.

Services will be Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Home, Martinsburg. Pastor Lee Ashley will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memorial Gardens, Martinsburg.

Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Patrick T. Ryan

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Patrick Thomas "Tom" Ryan, 58, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at his home.

Born July 26, 1944, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Patrick Thomas and Ruby V. Corbett Ryan.

He was a 1962 graduate of the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute.

He was a correctional officer for the Maryland Division of Corrections in Hagerstown.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Seifert Ryan, whom he married Oct. 18, 1975; one daughter, Heather A. Ryan of Baltimore; one son, Patrick T. Ryan Jr. of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Kathleen Bozel and Sherry Snyder, both of Baltimore; and one brother, John Ryan of Glenford, Ohio.
