The Koontzes

Mr. and Mrs. John C. Koontz Sr. celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at the Williamsport Fire Hall. Approximately 75 friends and relatives attended the event hosted by their sons and spouses, John Jr. and Ruth Koontz, David and Chris Koontz and two grandsons, Tim Koontz and Josh Koontz.

The Koontzes were married Nov. 8, 1952, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Koontz is the former Anna Jean Showe, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ivan L. Showe. She was employed by C&P Telephone Co. and Sears, Roebuck and Co. and retired from Koontz Lathing and Plastering.

Mr. Koontz is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Koontz. He served in the U.S. Army. He owned and operated Koontz Lathing and Plastering for 50 years until his retirement.

The Blackfords

Jim and Doris Blackford were surprised at an early 50th wedding anniversary celebration Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Heritage Hall in Inwood, W.Va. The event was hosted by their four children, James Jr., Roger, Linda and Brian and their spouses. Grandchildren and approximately 100 relatives and friends attended the event. A video of events of the last 50 years, compiled by their children, was featured. A buffet dinner followed.

The Blackfords were married Dec. 27, 1952, at First Baptist Church in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Mrs. Blackford retired from the Internal Revenue Service after 26 years of service.

Mr. Blackford retired from Capital Cement and the 167th West Virginia Air National Guard.

They have seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
