Police probe skiing death

January 13, 2003

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - A young skier who is believed to have suffered a head injury at Whitetail Mountain Resort near Mercersburg on Friday died at Washington County Hospital, a nursing supervisor said Saturday.

A passing skier discovered the 12-year-old boy unconscious beside a novice trail about 3:35 p.m. and notified a lift operator who contacted the resort's ski patrol, Whitetail General Manager Don MacAskill said.

Members of the ski patrol began CPR and called for emergency help. A Maryland State Police helicopter transported the boy to the hospital, MacAskill said.

The boy, who was part of a group skiing at the resort, did not live in the Tri-State area, MacAskill said.
