CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A 71-year-old Quincy Township, Pa., man charged with multiple counts of indecent assault against two young girls pleaded not guilty and waived arraignment in Franklin County Court Wednesday.

William Charles Johnson, of 3436 Clayhill Road, will be listed in the March trial term, according to court records.

He is charged with four counts of indecent assault, two counts of aggravated indecent assault, and one count each of attempted rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent exposure and corruption of minors, according to court records.

Johnson was charged last July and was held in the Franklin County Prison for a week before being released on $25,000 bond, court records show.

According to police and court records, Johnson spent time with the girls, who are ages 12 and 8, at church, at one girl's Waynesboro home and his own residence.

One of the girls' mothers notified Pennsylvania State Police after she found the girls crying together last June, according to court records.

Sexual contact was initiated with the 12-year-old girl at least four times and with the 8-year-old girl at least twice, according to allegations in court records.

In the summer of 2000, Johnson allegedly took the 12-year-old girl to his Clay Hill Road house "under the pretense that she was going to help him do some housecleaning," court records.

A woman was reportedly sitting in a chair at the house. Johnson said the woman was his mother, but the girl later learned that the woman was Johnson's wife, who is legally blind, has diabetes and depends on him as a caretaker, court records said.

Upstairs, Johnson allegedly told the girl to sit on a bed, and had sexual contact with her, according to charging documents.

The girl alleged to police that the first contact between her and Johnson occurred at a Waynesboro church on a rainy evening around Easter 1999.

Johnson allegedly offered to dry her hair, then led her into a storage closet, where he pressed himself against her from behind, charging documents allege.

Another alleged assault occurred around the summer of 2000 when he offered to help the girl clean her bedroom at home.

Two of the three incidents involving the 8-year-old girl allegedly happened during games of hide-and-seek in April and May at the 12-year-old girl's home.

It is alleged he trapped the 8-year-old girl in a bathroom both times and urged her to perform oral sex on him.
