Car reported stolen on Burhans Boulevard

Hagerstown City Police said Friday a car was stolen sometime between Dec. 30 and Jan. 3 on South Burhans Boulevard.

The car, a brown 1985 Mercury Marquis with Virginia registration, was parked at 550 S. Burhans Blvd. when it was taken, police said.

Woman's pocketbook stolen from her cart

A pocketbook was stolen on Thursday from the shopping cart of a woman who was attending to her baby at Martin's on Dual Highway, Hagerstown City Police said.

The woman's cell phone was also stolen.

The incident happened about 5 p.m. Thursday and was reported to police Friday morning, police said.

Sheriff's Department investigates break-ins

The Washington County Sheriff's Department on Friday reported responding to the following calls Thursday, Cpl. Roy Harsh said:

  • At 3:50 p.m., there was a report of a break-in at 11310 Ashton Road. A door and windows were tampered with, causing an estimated $40 damage to locks.

  • At 8:58 a.m., there was a report of malicious destruction of property at Sharretts' at 1333 Dual Highway. A customer's 1992 Mazda truck was broken into, causing about $100 damage to the window.

  • At 11:19 a.m., there was a report of a theft at 12927 Point Salem Road. Carpet cleaner was stolen from a garage. There was no damage estimate.

  • At 1:23 p.m., there was a report of a break-in at 820 Park Road. A screen door was damaged. There was no damage estimate.

Two trapped after snagging power lines

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A moving van pulling into a driveway on Stouffer Avenue on Friday morning snagged a power line attached to the house and ripped the wire free, leaving it dangling on the roof of the truck and trapping the two men inside.

There were no injuries.

Chambersburg Police Chief William Dubbs said borough power company crews cut off the power and removed the wire from the top of the truck without incident.
