Cops: Juveniles admit to mailbox vandalism

BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. - The Berkeley County Sheriff's Department has identified four juvenile suspects in a rash of vandalism to mailboxes.

The department began investigating complaints in late November. The damage was confined to Berkeley County, primarily the Mill Point and Winfield subdivisions and the area of Showers Lane.

Information from concerned citizens and other sources enabled investigators to identify at least four suspects, who have since been interviewed and confessed their involvement, the Sheriff's Department said.

They are all juveniles and have been released to their parents, police said.

The Sheriff's Department has recovered some mailboxes that remain unclaimed and believe there are people who have still not reported damage to their mailboxes.

Anyone who may have been a victim of the crimes should contact Sgt. Russell Shackelford at 304-267-7000.

City man charged with assault after fight

A 20-year-old Hagerstown man was charged with second-degree assault after a New Year's Day fight with his wife, Hagerstown City Police said.

Wendy Schnur told police that during an argument with her husband, who had been drinking, he said he was going to drive the car away.

When she took his pocketknife and tried to slash the tires of their Ford Tempo, he tackled her to the ground and hit her, police alleged.

Missing clothes returned to Pa. woman

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Clothes that a woman told Chambersburg Police had been stolen out of a washing machine at a Chambersburg Laundromat two weeks ago had only been moved by the business owner.

Joanna Misenko, 796 Meadowbrook Drive, told police she left her laundry in a washing machine at Laundry Quarters, 959 Wayne Ave., on Dec. 21 while she ran errands nearby and returned to find them missing.

Police determined the owner secured the woman's clothes when she had not returned at the time the clothes finished washing.

The woman was notified and retrieved her clothing, police said.
