The Monroes

Ralph Edelle and Louise Armell McCann Monroe observed their 51st wedding anniversary, Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002.

The Monroes were married Dec. 15, 1951, in Hagerstown.

Mrs. Monroe is the daughter of the late Robert B. and Emma Robinson McCann. She attended Page Jackson High School and Storer College. For many years, she was active in vocal and instrumental music.

Mr. Monroe is the son of the late Clarence H. and Frances King Monroe. He attended North Street High School, Allegheny College, Fairmont State College, James Madison University, Baltimore Area Pastors School and American Divinity School. He was ordained a deacon and elder in the United Methodist Church. He was a full-time minister for 45 years, serving churches in Keyser, W.Va., White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., Fairmont, W.Va., Harrisonburg, Va., Lexington, Va., Staunton, Va. and the Buckeystown Parish in Maryland. He retired in June 2000.

The Monroes were the parents of three children. One daughter survives.


The Spiglers

Gabby and Lugarda Spigler of Hagerstown celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002. The Spiglers and family members celebrated with dinner at Nicholas' at Four Points Sheraton in Hagerstown. They will continue their celebration with a stay at the Strasburg Inn in Lancaster, Pa., a gift from their children.

The Spiglers were married at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church by the Rev. Scott Wagner, now deceased.

Mrs. Spigler is the daughter of the late William H. Hawthorne. Mr. Spigler is the son of the late Pearl W. and George R. Spigler.

They are the parents of two daughters, Roberta Wise of Marbury, Md. and Harriett Hinton of Fair Haven, N.J. They also have three granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.

The Millses

Mr. and Mrs. George A. Mills of Sharpsburg celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at the Antrim House Restaurant in Hagerstown. The celebration was attended by a gathering of family. Their daughter presented them with a bouquet of 55 roses from her garden.

The Millses were married Oct. 26, 1947, by the late Rev. William Herpich.

Mrs. Mills is the former Alice E. Myers, daughter of the late John and Ida Myers.

Mr. Mills is the son of the late Noah and Mabel Mills.

They were owners and operators of Maryland Gum Tree Farms for 40 years.

Their four children and spouses are Linda and David Draper, Sharon and Ronald Ingram, Earl and Kimberly Mills and Arlene and Robert King.

They have six grandchildren.
