BOYS BASKETBALL

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. - Joey Breslin had 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Derrick Davis set a school record with nine steals as No. 10 St. Maria Goretti beat Tyrone (Pa.) at the Hollidaysburg Tournament on Sunday.

Davis shattered the previous single-game record of five, held by John Sommer since 1982. Davis added 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

The Gaels (6-5) broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring Tyrone, 20-6. Mason Herman scored six of his eight points in the period.

"Our defense was solid and our transition game was going well," Goretti coach Cokey Robertson said. "Actually, the whole nine yards went well in that quarter."
