Anniversaries

Mr. and Mrs. Emmert B. Wallech Jr. of Hagerstown were honored for their 50th wedding anniversary at a surprise party Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002.

Their seven children - Douglas, Emmert, Cheryl, Lois, Pam, Jeffery and Jami - hosted a party at Richardson's Restaurant in Hagerstown with many family members in attendance.

In addition to their seven children, Mr. and Mrs. Wallech have 12 grand children and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Wallech is a simi-retired truck driver. He works for Horst Transfer Inc. of Hagerstown.

Mrs. Wallech is the former Betty Sours. She is a homemaker.




The McClains

Mr. and Mrs. Richard C. McClain recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Rosemont Manor in Mercersburg, Pa. The event was attended by family, friends and members of the original wedding party.

The McClains were married Nov. 9, 1952, at Beaver Creek Christian Church by the Rev. J.H. Knibb.

Mrs. McClain is the former Edna Mae Hartle of Beaver Creek. She is a 1949 graduate of Boonsboro High School and a 1952 graduate of Washington County Hospital School of Nursing. She was voted Washington County Nurse of the Year in 1990.

Mr. McClain is a graduate of Hagerstown High School and attended Kansas State College. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart, among other honors. He worked for Fairchild, Colgate Palmolive and Coss Welding; was a branch manager for Allied Van Lines; and helped maintain several Hagerstown properties before his retirement. He is a member of American Legion Post 211, Elk's Lodge 378 and is a charter member of Brother Georges Fraternity. He also is a Red Cross volunteer.

The McClains have two daughters, one son, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.




James and Janet Norris of Frederick, Md. celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at a buffet dinner at Centennial Memorial United Methodist Church in Frederick. The event was hosted by their children, Kathy Norris Wright, Allan Norris and Matthew Norris and their families. Many friends and relatives attended the celebration.

The Norrises renewed their vows in a ceremony officiated by the Rev. George G. Earle Jr.

The Norrises were married Sept. 13, 1952, at St. James Brethren Church in St. James by the Rev. Freeman Ankrumn.

Mrs. Norris is the former Janet Lorraine Barkdoll of St. James. She worked for Potomac Edison Co. following graduation from school, has been a homemaker and is now employed by Routzahn's Furniture Store. She has been a volunteer worker at her church for more than 35 years.

Mr. Norris, originally from Garrett, Pa., and St. James, graduated from Hagerstown High School and Bliss Electrical School. He was employed by Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co. and later by AT&T Telephone Communications for more than 35 years. He now works part-time at Hertz Rental Cars as a shuttle driver. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946.

They have four grandchildren.




The Littens

Norman and Janet Litten of Hagerstown were honored for their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Richardson's Restaurant in Hagerstown. The party was hosted by their daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Charles Brumbine, and their two grandchildren. Friends and family from the Hagerstown area and from Finksburg, Md., Baltimore, Lititz, Pa., and Winchester, Va., attended the event.

The Littens were married Nov. 2, 1952, at Manor Church of the Brethren by J. Rowland Reichard.

They both retired from Londontown Corp.

Mr. Litten was plant manager of the cutting facility at Williamsport prior to his retirement in 1992.




The Martins

Mr. and Mrs. Arnold E. Martin Jr. of Martinsburg, W.Va., recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on a cruise to Bermuda aboard the Carnival Legend with family and friends.

The Martins were married Sept. 11, 1977, at Zion Baptist Church in Hagerstown, by the Rev. Moses J. Lifsey.

Mrs. Martin is the former Rosalind Antonia Jackson, daughter of the late Roseline V. Harshaw. She is employed by Washington County Department of Social Services.

Mr. Martin is the son of Bessie V. Martin of Frederick, Md. and Arnold E. Martin Sr. of Williamsport. He is employed by Federal Mogul in Winchester, Va.

The Martins have two children, Jessica N. Martin and Arnold E. Martin III.




The Frenches

Harold and Viva "Tiny" French of Hagerstown celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at Mrs. Gibbles Family Restaurant in Pennsylvania. They were honored by their children, Dena French, Lisa Cunningham, Carrie Tritsch and Harold French Jr., and their families. Relatives attended the event.

They were married Nov. 16, 1957, at the home of the Rev. Joseph Souders in Mount Lena.

Mrs. French is the former Viva Beittel, one of twin daughters of the late Cleon Austin Beittel and Marie Viva Weary and stepmother Freda Beittel. She retired from Weis Markets.

Mr. French is the son of the late James and Carrie (Toms) French. He retired from French's Barber Shop where he was owner.
