Edith A. Spickler

BOONSBORO - Edith Azalie Spickler, 88, of 410 Potomac St., died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at her home.

Born Sept. 22, 1914, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Harrison and Laura Jeanette Shives Weller.

She owned and operated the Beauty Shop at the point of Potomac Avenue and Hamilton Boulevard in Hagerstown for more than 30 years.

She was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Hagerstown.

She is survived by two sisters, Virginia J. Barnhart of Hagerstown and Geneva O. Schartel of Mount Home, Ark.; one brother, Homer T. Weller of McLean, Va.; nieces and nephews.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport. The Rev. Brian Moore will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Clear Spring.


The family will receive friends Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at 9 a.m.

Robert E. Bennett

WELLS TANNERY, Pa. - Robert E. Bennett, 63, of 419 Cove Road, formerly of 13752 Buchanan Trail West, Mercersburg, Pa., died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born June 11, 1939, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of Irene Pine Bennett of Mercersburg and the late Marvin S. Bennett.

He retired in 1994 from the former Corning Glass Works in Greencastle, Pa., after 33 years of service. He also had been an employee of the former Fry Coal & Stone Co. in Mercersburg and later of Memphis Equipment Co. of Chambersburg.

He attended Church of God in Greencastle.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Duvall Bennett, whom he married March 3, 1958; one son, Troy E. Bennett of Mercersburg; one sister, Diane Bowers of Mercersburg; three brothers, Wayne M. Bennett and Ronald L. Bennett, both of Greencastle, and Richard L. Bennett of Mercersburg; and one grandson.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Two Top Fellowship Church in Mercersburg. The Revs. Paul A. Martin and Belvy C. White will officiate. Burial will be in Stone Church Cemetery, in Little Cove, Pa.

Viewing will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday, one hour prior to services, at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Two Top Fellowship Church, 13743 Fort. Loudon Road, Mercersburg, PA 17236.

Arrangements are by Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg.

Olive M. Kershner

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Olive Mellott Kershner, 81, of Penn Hall Nursing Center and formerly of 250 Moss Spring Ave., Greencastle, Pa., died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at the nursing center.

Born June 19, 1921, in Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Henderson and Ruth Zimmerman Mellott.

She was a 1938 graduate of Lemasters High School in Lemasters, Pa.

Earlier, she worked for the former Stanley Company in Chambersburg and helped her husband on the family farm on Milnor Road in Greencastle for 35 years.

She was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Upton, Pa., and Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greencastle, where she was a member of Women's Bible Class and taught Gleaners Sunday School Class. She became a member of Menno Haven Penn Hall Chapel in 2000.

She was a member of Society of Farm Women Group 14 of Franklin County; Greencastle Senior Citizen Center and the former Greencastle AARP.

She is survived by her husband, J. Harold Kershner, whom she married Jan. 20, 1945; one son, Joseph H. Kershner of York, Pa.; three sisters, Mae Secrist of Fayetteville, Pa., June Mellott of Mercersburg, Pa., and Doris Hartman of Taneytown, Md.; and three brothers, Robert Mellott and Kenneth Mellott, both of Mercersburg, Pa. and George Mellott of Mechanicsburg, Pa.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn R. Kershner; two sisters, Janet E. Mellott and Helen Hawbaker; and three brothers, Ralph Mellott, J. Roy Mellott and Ray Mellott.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle. Chaplain Robert E. Keener will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funreral home.

Anna E. Eichelberger

Anna Elizabeth Hutson Eichelberger, 84, of Hagerstown, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born July 5, 1918, in Antietam Furnace, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Nettie Jamison Hutson.

Her husband, Vernon Eichelberger, died in 1952.

She retired from Troy Laundry in Hagerstown.

She was a Protestant.

She is survived by one son, Gary R. Eichelberger of Sharpsburg; two sisters, Margaret Myers and Ruth Mills, both of Antietam; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Vernon Eichelberger; and two brothers, Lloyd Hutson and Harry Hutson.

Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Mountain View Cemetery in Sharpsburg. The Rev. Ernest Witmer will officiate.
