Area Roundup - Blue Storm wrestlers finish third in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. - Mercersburg Academy fought through two tough matches on Saturday to claim third place in the KSA National Duals Tournament at Walt Disney World.

The Blue Storm (9-2) outdistanced Kings Park (N.Y.) 46-27 in the final round of round-robin pool competition, then defeated Culver (Ore.) 38-32 in a thriller for third place.

"This was an outstanding team effort, particularly today," Mercersburg coach Rick Hendrickson said. "... Our lightweights haven't stepped up this season thus far but they did today."

Aaron Barnette went 8-0 over the three-day event to run his record to 13-0. Adam Rook lost for the first time and is 17-1. Jonathan Edwards is 10-6.

Indians take third


POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. - Berkeley Springs placed third out of 10 teams at the Point Pleasant Pool Tournament with 109 points. Ripley won with 197.

Brandon Clark at 119 pounds, Matt Mason at 160 and Josh Clark at 189 all won titles to pace the Indians, who also got a second-place finish from Jamie Moore (171), a third from Chris Moore (145) and fourths from Lucas Andrews (112) and Ricky Kump (125).

HANCOCK, Md- Jeremy Newton scored 16 points and had seven assists and four rebounds, while Brad Spielman and Adam Flowers each added 12 points for Hancock (2-3).

Mike Kerlin and Scott Earley had nine points for McConnellsburg (1-4).
