Latta is Youth of the Month

HAGERSTOWN - Jesse Latta, a senior at Heritage Academy, was named the Youth of the Month for November on Tuesday by the Washington County Community Partnership for Children and Families.

He is the son of Jeffery Latta and Carol Hull of Hagerstown. He was nominated for the award by Principal Harold Miles and journalism teacher Denise Schlimgen.

The Washington County Commissioners presented Jesse with a Certificate of Merit for his achievements.

Jesse has served as a teacher's aide for two years, a math tutor, leads devotional groups and has given hours of volunteer service to the school doing a variety of jobs.

He is a 2002 Maryland Boys' State graduate and has served as junior and senior class president. He acts as the leader of the student body.

His church-related activities have included helping in the 3-and 4-year-olds class, church youth group participation and visiting nursing homes.

At home, his chores include mowing, snow removal, cleaning the pool and washing cars.

Jesse has lettered in soccer, basketball and baseball. He has been selected to a soccer all-tournament team, baseball all-conference team and has received soccer and baseball leadership awards.

He is listed in Who's Who and as a ACSI Distinguished Honor Student. He has received the Wendy's High School Heisman Scholarship Award, the U.S. National Journalism Award, the U.S. Marines Distinguished Award, among others.
