Roundup - North's Spruce keeps Blazers pining

Purnell Spruce had six steals and set a school record by dealing out 17 assists Monday to lead North Hagerstown to a 62-42 win over Clear Spring.

Bernard Harris had 22 points, nine rebounds and four blocks, while Quielan Gantt scored 19 points for the Hubs (3-0).

UNION BRIDGE - Guard Ryan Marquiss notched a triple-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 12 steals to lead Smithsburg to a Monocacy Valley Athletic League win over Francis Scott Key.

The Leopards (1-1, 1-1) led by as many as 20 points in the first half, but the Eagles cut the deficit to one with 1 1/2 minutes remaining. Gerry Spessard his three foul shots in the final 90 seconds to help Smithsburg pull away.

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Jason Anderson scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half while Brandon Dykes added nine to help Brunswick slowly pull away from Boonsboro.

Dykes finished with 19 points to go with nine rebounds and four steals to the Railroaders (3-1, 2-1) while Jeremy Hueston finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Jesse Ault had five assists.

Nathan Himes led Boonsboro with 12 points while Keith Kellinger added 10.

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. Kevin Plott scored his only basket of the game with 1.4 seconds left to lift Cumberland Valley over Chambersburg (1-6).

The Trojans had taken a 49-48 lead with 10 seconds to play on a pair of free throws by Bryan Bender. Freshman Jonathan Mochitka had 12 points for Chambersburg, including two 3-pointers.
