Maryland State Police continue sobriety check



Maryland State Police in Hagerstown are conducting a sobriety checkpoint in Washington County through today.

State police and deputies from the Washington County Sheriff's Department are conducting the checkpoint in an undisclosed location to target drunk and drugged drivers, police said.




Kerosene fire destroys Libertytown, Md., home



LIBERTYTOWN, Md. - A kerosene stove sparked a blaze that destroyed a Frederick County home late Thursday, the Maryland State Fire Marshal's office said.

About 30 firefighters from Libertytown, Union Bridge, New Windsor, Walkersville, Woodsboro and New Midway responded at about 10 p.m. to the one-alarm fire at 10003 Bessie Clemson Road in Libertytown, Deputy State Fire Marshal Maurice C. Cox said.

The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in property damage and displaced the home's two occupants, he said.




Man faces assault, handgun charges



FREDERICK, Md. - A Frederick, Md., man was taken into custody late Friday after Frederick Police interrupted a burglary.

Gregory Scott Huntzberry, 32, of 606 E. Patrick St., was charged with reckless endangerment, first-degree assault and use of a handgun in a violent crime, police said.

Huntzberry was also wanted in Washington County on charges of theft and carrying a concealed deadly weapon, police said.

Frederick Police said they went to 117 S. Jefferson St. shortly before midnight and saw a man standing behind the door with a handgun. When the man saw the officers he dropped the gun and was taken into custody, police said.




Stuck truck backs up traffic on I-81 in Pa.



MARION, Pa. - Both lanes of Interstate 81 between Exits 5 and 10 were closed for a short time and traffic was rerouted onto U.S. 11 Friday evening when a tractor-trailer ran into the median and became stuck, state police said.

There were no injuries.
