Pediatrician available for free clinic visits



Dr. Bruce E. Weneck, a board-certified pediatrician, announces Pediatric Night Friday, Dec. 20, at 3 p.m. at Community Free Clinic, 18 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown.

Newville center hosts aerobics classes



NEWVILLE, Pa. - Aerobics will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Newville Area Community Center, 2 Chestnut St.

The class is designed for intermediate level participants; however, it can be geared up or down to meet class needs. Step, high and low impact aerobics are utilized.

Cost for the eight-week, 16-class session is $35, or $3 for individual classes. The class begins Tuesday, Jan. 7. Registration forms are available at the Community Center or by calling 1-717-776-4393 or go to www.newville.com on the Web.




Hospital hosts series of free diabetes clinics



RANSON, W.Va. - Diabetes education classes will be offered at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Classes will explain what diabetes is, how to monitor blood sugar, and what medical complications may arise. Participants also will learn how to do proper foot care, receive diet counseling, learn the proper way to exercise and discuss eye care and labs.

The four-week program teaches self-management skills. Classes are held Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. in the third floor classroom.

  • Session one meets Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29.

  • Session two meets April 2, 9, 16 and 23.

  • Session three meets July 2, 9, 16 and 23.

  • Session four meets Oct. 8, 15, 22 and 29.

Prenatal classes begin at W.Va. hospital



RANSON, W.Va. - Jefferson Memorial Hospital hosts a series of prenatal and parenting classes for women delivering in February or March.

Each course involves six weekly 2-hour classes. The classes are Thursdays, Jan. 9 through Feb. 13, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the hospital's first floor conference room. The next classes are:

  • Jan. 9, Prenatal Phase

  • Jan. 16, Stage One of Labor

  • Jan. 23, How to Prepare a Labor Kit

  • Jan. 30, When the Unplanned Happens

  • Feb. 6, Breastfeeding

  • Feb. 13, Postpartum Self Care and Parenting


All participants should register at the outpatient registration desk. There is a $45 fee for the program. Right From the Start participants may attend free.

Pediatrician discusses ADD in free seminar



Dr. Bruce E. Weneck, a pediatrician, will present a free "Attention Deficit Disorder Made Easy" seminar Sunday, Jan. 26, from 1 to 2 p.m. at 303 W. Memorial Blvd., Hagerstown. The 60-minute seminar will cover hyperactivity, school problems, once-a-day medications and new treatment options.
