Man treated at hospital hours after driving car off the road

December 13, 2002

A Gapland man was still being evaluated Thursday night at City Hospital's emergency room in Martinsburg, W.Va., after he was found hours after driving his car off the road, Maryland State Police said.

Joseph R. Agee, 77, had driven his car off Dam No. 4 Road on Thursday afternoon, police said. Agee was found disoriented and sitting in the bushes in the snow along a fence row in the 7000 block of Dam No. 4 Road around 9 p.m.

A neighbor had seen the car earlier Thursday and seen a man walk away, but didn't call police until 8 or 9 p.m., police said.

Agee might have been suffering from hypothermia, emergency officials said.

Agee was taken to City Hospital because Washington County Hospital was on yellow alert with their beds full at the time, police said.

A hospital spokeswoman said late Thursday that the hospital had been on yellow alert, but was no longer.
