Carroll Cooper Jr.

WILLIAMSPORT - Carroll Cooper Jr., 84, of Milestone Garden Apartments, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Sept. 8, 1918, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Carroll Sr. and Lula M. Lapole Cooper.

His wife, Eleanor Pauline Barnhart Cooper, died July 16, 1993.

He retired from the Maryland Correctional Institution in Hagerstown.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he received the Victory Medal.

He was a member of AARP.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert C. Lehman will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home at 1 p.m.




James A. Betson

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - James A. Betson, 81, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Heartland of Martinsburg.

Born July 17, 1921, in Hampshire County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Granville C. and Nora Kidwell Betson.

He retired from Crider and Shockey Concrete.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maxine Saville Betson; one daughter, Bonnie Bradfield of Winchester, Va.; three brothers, Johnny Betson and William Betson, both of Paw Paw, W.Va., and Marvin Betson of Virginia; one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Miller, Virginia Kaylor and Goldie Riggleman.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. William C. Crowe will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Union Cemetery in Slanesville, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Lisa A. Williams

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Lisa Ann Williams, 36, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.

Born July 29, 1966, in Whitestone, N.Y., she was the daughter of Eleanor Voelk Kehoe of Whitestone and the late Gilbert Flori.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bayside, N.Y.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Stanley J. Williams; two sisters, Laura Shinn of Garrison, N.Y. and Tina Pappas of Whitestone; and her stepfather, Junnie.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at South Berkeley Chapel Funeral Home, Inwood, W.Va. The Rev. James D. Riley Jr. will officiate.

Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




W. Dale Suffecool

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - W. Dale Suffecool, 58, of 4415 Guitner Road, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at his home.

Born June 2, 1944, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Walter D. and Mary Shoemaker Suffecool.

He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Air Force.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Crabbe Suffecool, whom he married Nov. 28, 1964; one daughter, Christine R. Gelsinger of Shippensburg, Pa.; two sisters, Mary Lou Miller and Dolly Hollenshead, both of Greencastle, Pa.; and three brothers, Paul Suffecool of Greencastle, Frank Suffecool of Arizona and Rodney Suffecool of New Paris, Pa.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

There will be no public viewing.




Ruby J. Bishop

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Ruby J. Bishop, 91, of Fulton County Medical Center Extended Care Unit, 216 S. First St., died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at the center.

Born Sept. 21, 1911, in Big Cove Tannery, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Famie Gordon Bishop.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Bishop, in 1968.

She was a former member of United Methodist Church in McConnellsburg.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by seven daughters, Mary Fetters and Mildred Truax, both of McConnellsburg, Helen Gracey of Waterfall, Pa., Martha Shoemaker of Big Cove Tannery, Nancy Bryner of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Lois Cobhugh of Hummelstown, Pa. and Elena Seiders of Middletown, Pa.; five sons, John Bishop, Charles Bishop, George Bishop and Harold Bishop, all of McConnellsburg, and Calvin Bishop of Hagerstown; two sisters, Jean Issac of Charleroi, Pa. and Stella Keefer of McConnellsburg; 35 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, two brothers and four stepgrandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, McConnellsburg. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will open Thursday at 2 p.m.




Edythe M. Shatzer

QUINCY, Pa. - Edythe May "Edie" Sanders Shatzer, 87, of Quincy United Methodist Home, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at the home.

Born May 23, 1915, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Elva K. Sheeley Sanders Wilhide and the late Charles L. Sanders.
