Man hurt on snowmobile

December 09, 2002

A Hagerstown man was seriously hurt Thursday night when his snowmobile collided head-on with a pickup truck on Airview Road near Paradise Church Road.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department said Henry Calvin Foltz, 53, of 19617 Granada Lane, was going east in the westbound lane when his snowmobile was struck by a pickup truck at the crest of a hill.

The driver of the truck, Donald E. Minnich Jr., 29, of 5375 Salem Church Road, Waynesboro, Pa., told police he could not see the snowmobile until it was too late.

Because of the extent of his injuries, rescue workers called a medevac helicopter to fly Foltz to a Level I trauma center, said Community Rescue Service Chief Chris Amos. But the helicopter was grounded due to the weather and Community Rescue Service took Foltz by ambulance to Washington County Hospital's Level III Trauma Center, he said.

A Washington County Hospital spokeswoman said Foltz was transferred to another hospital, but neither she nor police could not say which.

The accident is still under investigation.
