Two face drug charges after traffic stop

FREDERICK, Md. - Moments after hearing the description of a car involved in an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a Frederick City Police officer spotted the vehicle and pulled it over Thursday morning.

Cpl. Dennis Dudley was patrolling on West 7th Street at around 11:28 a.m. when the 1994 metallic blue Oldsmobile Cutlass pulled behind his cruiser. After allowing the vehicle to go around him, Dudley stopped the car and found Charles Edward Rice Jr. behind the wheel.

A K-9 search of the car turned up a quantity of crack cocaine from the front passenger seat and a crack pipe under the driver's seat, police alleged.

Rice, 36, of 5349 Buffalo Road, Mt. Airy, was charged with driving while suspended and possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, police said. Rice was being held at the Frederick County Detention Center on $5,000 bond, jail officials said Thursday night.

Passenger Lee Lamont Thompson, 38, of 600 N. Bentz St., Apt. 65, was charged with possession of cocaine, police said. He was being held on $7,500 bond.
