Mail Call for 12/5

December 06, 2002

"I would like to respond to the person who wanted to be locked in a box with Bill Clinton. I am assuming you are a woman. As one woman to another, if you want to be locked in a box with Bill Clinton, you will be in the dark, you know, especially if they put you in the attic. My advice to you is get a man with a big nose, a box of cigars and a cavalier attitude, go to the attic and turn out the lights. You will probably think you were with him."

"Can someone tell me why Robinwood Drive is supposed to be the worst possible choice for the new hospital? One of the readers said that it was because of poor access, very poor access to Robinwood Drive. Eastern Boulevard and the Dual Highway already have enough traffic. I don't see where it is poor access."

"What do I want for Christmas? First I want a Value City Department Store in Hagerstown. I want a Kohl's Department Store in Hagerstown. I also have many other wishes, too. There also needs to be something out there in the Long Meadow Shopping Center, it is bare as a bone. There is no reason to even go there. It's not a congested area and I don't like the new location for the Sears. It was all by itself, now you have to go out to the mall where all the mall rats are running around."

"It's Tuesday, 5 p.m., on Dec. 3. I am watching ABC Channel 7 News. They are talking about the kids in Washington, D.C., and one of the schools had no heat. Here in Hagerstown this morning it was nine degrees. We live in one of the richest countries in the world and we are sending kids to school with no heat. Doesn't make sense to me."

"Please help. Information needed on an accident that happened at the corner of Prospect Street and Washington Street on Saturday, Nov. 30, around 3 p.m. If there were any witnesses to this accident, involving a car that went over the wall at the Presbyterian Church and knocked down the iron fence and ended up in the front yard of the church, contact Wendy at 301-842-3537. Leave a message if there is no answer."

"In regards to the Christmas lights in Williamsport Byron Memorial Park, they are beautiful. Don't go by the picture in the paper of the bush with the lights. That was an insult to the workers who deserve more. Come take a look at these beautiful lights."

"I was at Wal-Mart on Black Friday. When I was at the register, I was $20 short and this lady walked up behind me and gave me the $20 and said Merry Christmas. I wanted to leave a thank you to her and I want to wish her a Merry Christmas too."

"The City of Hagerstown sold the old light plant for a couple of pennies and didn't even bother to repair the hundreds of broken windows beforehand. It will be a long time before the new owners make any repairs. In the meantime, the old light plant is a mess. Don't tell me it doesn't affect the value of nearby properties. Yeah, now let's build a shiny new hospital right beside it and that monstrous paper plant."

"For all the people who don't know what a free-range turkey is. That is a turkey that was sold for 19 cents a pound at all the local supermarkets. Along with getting it for 19 cents a pound, they threw it in a free range. Get educated."

"I lost a gold and diamond wedding ring. It has very sentimental value. I lost it at the South Potomac Street Sheetz parking lot on Tuesday, Dec. 3, between 10 and 10:30 a.m. I am offering a reward. Please call 301-432-6699."

"Why does this town have so many parking meters?"

"If you think the Westview projects are so beautiful then maybe you should be paying that $45 a year to have your rental units inspected."

"Just wondering what the outcome of The Herald-Mail turkey coloring contest was. Please let us know."

"They wouldn't let them build a Wal-Mart in Funkstown because of the traffic around the school. But they are letting them build a hospital out near Eastern Elementary School. That doesn't make sense to me."

"'Days of Our Lives' fans, Philip will be leaving in December. Also, as we know, Billie will be leaving, even though she came back for a short time unexpectedly. She will be leaving and she will be leaving with a bang!"

"This is Becky from Beaver Creek Christian Church. I would like to thank all the people who donated to our Operation Santa Claus. It's a project of the Mental Health Association of Maryland, the Washington County Branch, and Turning Point of Washington County. Our church has been a part of this for many years, so I thank all of those who gave us the hundreds of packages to wrap. Also, thanks to the girls who came and helped me wrap them. I appreciate it. God bless you and Merry Christmas."

"I am sure if I were to go in someone's yard and pull the lights out of their Christmas trees that they worked hard at to look pretty and they saw me doing it, I would be arrested. Well, it's too bad there wasn't an officer around near East Washington Street when I saw on two occasions a teenage girl and a teenage boy pulling the lights out of the garland wrapped around the light poles. They can't use them on their trees at their home so I guess we just call it 'just being a kid.' Merry Christmas."
