Salvation Army to salute all veterans on Saturday

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Salvation Army will celebrate a history of service to the nation Saturday, Pearl Harbor Day, at the Chambersburg Wal-Mart.

"We will be honoring all those brave people who have served our nation as part of the military forces, law enforcement and emergency services - people who make our very existence possible," said Capt. John Brooks, commanding officer of the Chambersburg Salvation Army.

Pictures from World War I and II from the Salvation Army National Archives will be on display between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., with a short ceremony at 10 a.m.

The ceremony will feature the Chambersburg Veterans of Foreign Wars honor guard and bugler, the Delta Brass Quintet and a statement from a local World War II prisoner of war.

"We invite everybody to join with us in paying homage to the spirit of brotherhood that causes a person to risk their life for his fellow man," Brooks said.
