Southern Fulton girls win opener

GIRLS BASKETBALL



FISHERTOWN, Pa. - Bethany Mellott had 16 points and five assists to lead Southern Fulton to a season-opening 40-35 win over Chestnut Ridge Monday night.

Candace Bard grabbed eight rebounds and scored seven points for Southern Fulton, while Samantha Caine added nine points on three 3-point field goals.

Breeden wins Turkey Trials


Williamsport High School freshman Amanda Breeden was the overall female winner at the Turkey Trials at Hagerstown Community College on Thanksgiving morning.

Breeden, who led Williamsport to the Maryland Class 1A girls cross country title last month, covered the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, 59 seconds.

Taylor Milne was the overall male winner with a time of 15:21.

There were 177 finishers in the race, which gave away 16 turkeys as prizes.

Christ Lutheran 50, Gateway 37: Kenny Shanholtz had 14 points and Steve Wilson had 10 for Christ Lutheran. Victor Fowlkes had eight points for Gateway.

Saint James B 57, Rehobeth 39: Josh Norris had 20 points and Bryan Haupt added 13 for Saint James. Wade Staley had 21 points for Rehobeth.

West End Baptist 59, Tri-State 47: Steve Presgraves had 21 points and Chris Cline had 12 for West End. Amy Hunt had 13 points for Tri-State.
