Dorothy J. Powers

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Dorothy "Dottie" J. Powers, 61, formerly of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at the home of her daughter in Murrells Inlet, S.C.

Born July 22, 1941, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert Lewis and Mabel Elizabeth Alkire Dancer.

She was a graduate of South Hagerstown High School and Columbia Business College.

She was employed by Strand Regional Specialty Associates in Myrtle Beach, S.C;. and previously was employed by Citicorp and First Data of Hagerstown.


She attended Downsville Christian Church, Downsville.

She served on the board of directors for the Miss Washington County Pageant and served as a judges chairperson.

She is survived by one daughter, Amy LeDawn Clark of Murrells Inlet; three sons, Harry L. Powers IV of Clear Spring, Richard Lynn Powers and Timothy Lee Powers, both of Hancock; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one nephew.

A memorial service will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Patricia Drake will officiate.

The family will receive friends following the services, until 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open Wednesday after 1 p.m.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Mildred L. Mowen

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mildred L. McCulloh Mowen, 81, of Falling Spring Nursing Home, and formerly of Alterra Sterling House, 745 Norland Ave., died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at the nursing home.

Born June 16, 1921, in Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William L. and Clara Koons McCulloh.

Her husband, William M. Mowen, died Sept. 17, 1988. They were married Dec. 10, 1943.

She was a graduate of Mercersburg (Pa.) High School.

She was a homemaker, and had worked as a clerk for G.C. Murphy in Mercersburg.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Mercersburg.

She was a member and past president of Harry Lackhove American Legion Post 517 Ladies' Auxiliary, and a member of Clarence Armstrong VFW Post 6241 Ladies' Auxiliary, both in Mercersburg.

She is survived by one son, Kenneth W. Mowen of Waynesboro, Pa.; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; one great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one infant sister; and one brother, Howard L. McCulloh.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Larry W. Webster Sr.

UPPER STRASBURG, Pa. - Larry Wayne Webster Sr., 58, of Upper Strasburg, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002.

Born May 18, 1944, in Dargan, Md., he was the son of the late Marvin L. and Erscel R. Holmes Webster.

He was the husband of Linda Darlene Helmick Webster, who also died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002.

He attended North Hagerstown High School.

He was employed as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1999 after 35 years.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Germany.

He is survived by one daughter, Cynthia S. Colangelo of Hagerstown; two sons, Larry W. Webster Jr. of Greencastle, Pa., and Todd A. Webster of Hagerstown; one stepdaughter, Christina M. Bowers of Hagerstown; two stepsons, Mark A. Miller Jr. and Troy L. Miller, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Tina M. Parfitt of Hagerstown; two brothers, Marvin L. Webster of Hagerstown, and Carl C. Webster of Wichita, Kan.; six grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Tonya A. Webster.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown. The Rev. Daniel Shifflett will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Stewart I. Hartle

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - Stewart Irvin Hartle, 64, of Lot-Mud Creek Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at Jellico (Tenn.) Community Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Maggie Jones Hartle; two sons, Roderick J. Hartle of Hot Springs, N.C., and Jeffery A. Hartle of Warnsburg, Mo.; one daughter, Lorinda J. Hartle of Lawrenceville, Ga.; six stepchildren, Debra Chapman and Gary Lay, both of Williamsburg, Donald Lay of Jacksboro, Tenn., Jason Lay of Knoxville, Tenn., Rebecca Louden of Jellico, and Sue Lawson of Woodbine; three sisters, Virginia Moyer of Williamsburg, Pat Biser and Connie Hoffman, both of Hagerstown; two brothers, Wilbur Hartle of Caledonia, Miss., and Donald Hartle of Bedford, Va.; eight stepgrandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services were Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Croley Funeral Home, Williamsburg. The Rev. Mark Laws officiated. Burial was in Anderson-Siler Cemetery.
