CARLISLE, Pa. - Courtney West scored 16 points to offset James Buchanan's off-shooting night Friday in a 49-40 victory over Mechanicsburg in the opening round of the Carlisle Tip-Off Tournament.

The Rockets managed to hit just 13 of 33 shots from the free-throw line.

Emily Stoner had 13 points for James Buchanan (1-0), which will play in the championship game today at 5 p.m.

County flag football league hosts state tournament


The Washington County Flag Football League is hosting the Maryland State 9-Man Flag Football Championships this weekend at Marty Snook Park in Halfway. The double elimination tournament, which features teams from Cumberland, the Baltimore/Washington area and the Washington County League, begins today at 8:30 a.m. Crazy Horse and Jan Pro will represent the WCFFL in the tournament.
