Hawks prevail in OT

November 25, 2002

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - Hagerstown Community College overcame its struggles at the free throw line Sunday to beat Rockingham 71-67 in overtime.

The Lady Hawks (4-2) made just 13 of 30 free throws and saw Rockingham erase an 11-point halftime deficit to tie the game at 60-60 on a 3-pointer by Keisha Commey with six seconds left in regulation.

But HCC persevered in the extra period, getting two big foul shots from Nicole Brown as the Hawks outscored Rockingham 11-7 in the overtime period.

"We had a hard time generating offense in the second half, but we made the key plays when we needed them," said HCC coach Marlys Palmer. "But 13 of 30 from the foul line concerns me. It just about cost us the game today. If we would have made them, we would have had a margin to work with."
