A two-car crash near Cearfoss claimed the lives of two area residents early Sunday, Maryland State Police said.

The accident occurred at about 3:45 a.m. on Md. 494, west of Mann Lane in the Cearfoss area between Hagerstown and Clear Spring.

A Geo Prism driven by Larry Eugene Rhoe, 43, of Greencastle, Pa., was headed west when his car crossed the center line and veered into the eastbound lane for reasons yet to be determined, police said.

A 1995 Toyota Tercel driven by Wendy Marie Dorsey, 27, of Clear Spring, was traveling east on Md. 494 and was hit head-on by Rhoe's car.

Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles and were trapped in the wreckage.

Rhoe, a resident of John Lindsay Road, Greencastle, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Dorsey was removed from her vehicle and flown by the Maryland State Police medevac helicopter to Washington County Hospital.

She died at the hospital from her injuries, police said.

Community Rescue Service, the Maugansville Volunteer Fire Department, Williamsport Ambulance Service and representatives of the Maryland State Highway Administration responded to the accident.
