Robert E. Shafer Jr.

Robert Emory Shafer Jr., 75, of 1535 Kensington Drive, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Born Feb. 21, 1927, in Downsville, he was the son of the late Robert E. Shafer Sr. and Lois Blanche Shiflett Shafer Murray.

He was employed by Charlton Brothers for 17 years, Lone Star Cement for 36 years and part-time by Kay Trucking, all in Hagerstown.

He was a member of First Christian Church, Hagerstown.

He was a member of Elks Lodge 378; United Lime, Cement and Gypsum Workers Union; and Teamsters Union Local 992, all of Hagerstown.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Peters Shafer, whom he married Oct. 5, 1957; three daughters, Sharon L. Wiles of Fairfield, Pa., Dana L. Shafer and Mary Catherine Shafer, both of Hagerstown; four sons, Ronald E. Shafer of Neelyton, Pa., Robert L. Shafer of Maugansville, James E. Shafer of Boonsboro and Michael W. Shafer of Marion, Pa.; one brother, Gordon L. Shafer of Berlin, Md.; 13 grandchildren, including Heather D. Shafer of Hagerstown, whom he raised; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth I. Mellott; two granddaughters and one great-grandson.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro. The Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Ronald A. Buterbaugh

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Ronald A. "Buss" Buterbaugh, 37, of 1943 Mountain Road, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at his home.

Born Jan. 31, 1965, in McConnellsburg, Pa., he was the son of Ronald B. Buterbaugh of McConnellsburg and Frieda Crouse Manetti of Warfordsburg.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one daughter, Brittany Hann of Chambersburg, Pa.; one son, Jesse Buterbaugh of Chambersburg; one sister, Brenda Snouffer of McConnellsburg; and two brothers, Terry D. Buterbaugh of McConnellsburg and Gerald T. Buterbaugh of Hustontown, Pa.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home in McConnellsburg. The Rev. Delmas Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Christian Cemetery, Warfordsburg.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m.




L. Elizabeth Misner

L. Elizabeth "Liz" Shafer Misner, 62, of Julia Manor Health Care Center, Hagerstown and formerly of 14769 Botton Road, Williamsport, and Mont Alto, Pa., died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002.

Born June 27, 1940, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late S. Russell and Martha E. Martin Shafer.

She was a 1958 graduate of Messiah Academy in Grantham, Pa.; a 1963 graduate of Messiah College with a bachelor of science degree in nursing; a graduate of Harrisburg (Pa.) Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse and was a 1971 graduate of Shippensburg (Pa.) College with a master of science degree in counseling. She received a master of science degree in nursing in1975 from Catholic University in Washington, D.C.

She was employed by Hagerstown Community College in 1969 as the first full-time instructor in the department of nursing. She currently was working as coordinator of academic advisement.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda K. Slagle of Mechanicsburg, Pa. and Bobbi A. Rohrer of Waynesboro, Pa.; one son, D. Brian Misner of Rouzerville, Pa.; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; her stepmother, Lois E. Shafer of Greencastle, Pa.; one stepsister, Donna Harshman of Chambersburg; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Grace Shafer.

Services will be Friday at 8 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. The Rev. C. Dean Mouk will officiate.

The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Frank G. Fay

ST. THOMAS, Pa. - Frank G. Fay, 84, of 453 Shields Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at his home.

Born June 16, 1918, in Fayette City, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank and Martha Jane Leonard Fay.

He had been a commercial artist employed by Sheet Metal Coating and Lithograph Co.; and Crown, Cork and Seal Corp., both in Baltimore.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He was a member of Mount Olivet United Brethren Church.

He was an award-winning artist.

He was a member of Waynesboro Studio Club; Franklin County Art Alliance; and Valley Art Association.

He was a member of St. Thomas American Legion Post 612.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Marie Scheeler Fay, whom he married Aug. 25, 1946; one daughter, Judith A. Giles of Haines City, Fla.; one sister, Edna Rodebaugh of Fayette, Pa.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, William Fay, Fred Fay, Rishel Fay and an infant brother.
