MEN'S BASKETBALL



Hagerstown Community College dropped its first game of the season behind poor free-throw shooting, falling 85-83 to visiting Baltimore Monday night.

Thomas Johnson led Hagerstown, which connected on just 21 of 41 foul shots, in scoring with 13 points. Mike Lee added 10 points while leading the team in rebounds with nine.

The Hawks (3-1) are back in action Friday at Catonsville at 4:00 p.m.

PREP SOCCER



Area players shine in all-star game


CHARLESTON, W. Va. - Martinsburg's Kacie Keesecker helped the North All-Stars defeat the South All-Stars 4-0 in the West Virginia High Schools Senior Girls All-Star Game on Sunday. Martinsburg's Jessica Hawbacker also had an assist in the victory.

Jefferson goalkeeper Laura McIlroy combined for a shutout with Parkersburg South's Ashley Beckett. John Marshall's Maddie Lawther led the team with two goals, while Morgantown's Drew Bucy scored one.

In the Senior Boys All-Star Game, the South All-Stars grabbed a 4-1 halftime lead and hung on to beat the North All-Stars, 5-2.

Playing in the game for the North were Jefferson's Dylan Beitz, Hedgesville's Jeremy Bryant and Martinsburg's Brian Beverley, Brad Dodson, Aaron Miller and Aaron Smith.

DeBaugh wins regional honor


Martinsburg boys soccer coach Jason DeBaugh was recently named the 2002 West Virginia Region II Coach of the Year for the second straight year.

Debaugh guided the Bulldogs to a 15-2-3 record with a Section 4 title and berth in the region finals.

St. James 78, Bowling Brook Prep 3


ST. JAMES - Luke Hilton, Troy Townsend, Sam Ashelman, Tim Berger and Mo Rodriguez each upped their records to 2-0 for the season to lead St. James to a non-conference victory over Bowling Brook Prep.




ADULT LEAGUE



Washington County church hoops


Tri-State 64, Nazarene 43: Jason Connor had 12 points and Benji Hunt added 11 to lead Tri-State over Nazarene. Tim Troxell led Nazarene with 10 points.

Dargan 76, Rehoboth 33: Brian Shoemaker had 26 points and Andy Beard had 20 to lead Dargan. Kevin Smoot had 10 points for Rehoboth.

West End Baptist 67, Gateway 41: Tony Harnish had 20 points and Chris Cline added 13 to lead West End. Tyree Sterling led Gateway with 15 points.
