ABC awards cite excellence

The Associated Builders and Contractors Inc., Cumberland Valley Chapter, held its annual Excellence in Construction Awards program Oct. 17 at Fountain Head Country Club in Hagerstown.

The Awards of Excellence competition sponsored by ABC recognizes and publicizes outstanding projects built by members of the association.

Awards were presented to the following first-place winners of Excellence in Construction awards:

  • Category C, Institution over $1 million - Callas Contractors, Hagerstown, for The Richard A. Henson Family YMCA.

  • Category G, Mechanical Contractor - R.W. Warner Inc., Frederick, Md., for the National Center for Cool and Cold Water Aquaculture.

  • B-1, Industrial over $1 million - Morgan-Keller Inc., Frederick, Md., for Pella Windows.

The following sub-contractors were recognized for their contributions to the winning projects: Cavetown Planing, Crown Inc., Crum Electric, Ellsworth Electric, Engineering Consulting, Fayetteville Contractors, H. Frank Foland, Hagerstown Paint & Glass, J&W Mechanical, M.S. Johnston, Long Fence, Nitterhouse Concrete, Standard Acoustical, Thomas Bennett & Hunter, United Rentals and Yarnell Wastler.


Merit Awards were presented to the following contractors:

  • GRC General Contractor, Zullinger, Pa., for Sykesville Freedom District No. 12 Fire Department.

  • Morgan Keller Inc., Frederick, Md., for the I-70 Commerce Center.

ABC is a national trade association with more than 23,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms in 83 chapters across the nation. Locally, more than 220 employers are members of the Cumberland Valley Chapter.
