Medications resource guide now available

The Washington County Mental Health Authority has developed and produced its medications resource guide for Washington County.

The guide provides information on available medication resources for residents of Washington County, and lists the eligibility criteria, available medications and copay requirements for 11 community agencies.

The guide is available as a brochure, on the authority's Web site at or by calling 301-739-2490.

Insurance official visiting in December

A representative from the Maryland Insurance Administration will visit Washington County in December.

The representative will be available Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the state comptroller's branch office in the Professional Arts Building at 1 S. Potomac St.

The representative will answer questions about insurance coverage, give information on how to file complaints against insurance companies and give out consumer education materials.

Boys & Girls Club hosting safety forum

The Boys & Girls Club of Washington County is celebrating National Family Week by hosting a community forum on child safety at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the club, 805 Pennsylvania Ave.

The club is partnering with State Farm Insurance, The Escape School, Always Catering and Staples to promote parental awareness and provide information on child safety techniques.

The Escape School is a program that works with children and parents to increase the level of safety in communities. The Escape School's goal is to teach individuals how to think proactively instead of reactively to threatening situations. Trained facilitators will lead the session and provide handouts for participants to share with others. Child identification cards will be provided by State Farm Insurance.

The program is free but space is limited. Registration for the event is required and can be made by calling the Boys & Girls Club at 301-733-5422.

Student government schedules blood drive

Hagerstown Community College's Student Government Association will sponsor a Red Cross Blood Drive Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the College Center. The public is invited.
