John M. Murphy

NEW HOPE, W.Va. - John Morgan Murphy, 67, of New Hope, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at his home.

Born June 8, 1935, in New Hope, he was the son of the late Harley Morgan and Myrtle May Lutman Murphy.

He attended Berkeley Springs (W.Va.) High School.

He retired from the Morgan County Schools as a school bus driver.

He was of the Presbyterian faith.

He was a member of the Junior Order of United Americans Mechanics Council 117 of Berkeley Springs.

He is survived by one sister, Pearl K. Arnold of Sleepy Creek, W.Va.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, where the Junior Order will conduct a memorial service. Burial will be in Duckwall Church of Christ Cemetery, Morgan County, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Evelyn R. Smith

Evelyn R. Smith, 64, of 333 Mill St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born July 6, 1938, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Oliver and Jean Wheeler Hull.

Her husband, Eugene Elmer Smith, died in 1993.

She was a homemaker.

She attended the Pentecostal Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Jean Smith of Hagerstown; two sons, Stephen E. Smith of Hagerstown, and Curtis L. Smith Sr. of Clear Spring; two sisters, Susan L. Murray and Rebecca J. Pruett, both of Marlowe, W.Va.; four brothers, Charles W. Hull and Dennis M. Hull, both of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., George J. Hull of Hagerstown, and Larry L. Hull of Glengary, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services and burial will be private.

There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice or to the family.

R. Delphine VanHorn

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - R. Delphine VanHorn, 79, of Hedgesville, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born March 6, 1923, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Lawrence P. and Geraldine Morrow Wilson.

She is survived by her husband, Amos C. VanHorn; four daughters, Carole L. Bartgis of Lancaster, Pa., Ruth A. Burkhart of Kearneysville, W.Va., and Oneida F. VanHorn and Lois L. Dick, both of Hedgesville; one son, Amos C. VanHorn Jr. of Hedgesville; two sisters, Enola Lentz of Martinsburg, and Wilma Riner of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; three brothers, Lawrence Wilson of Hedgesville, R. Elwood Wilson of Bloomery, W.Va., and Paul D. Wilson of Martinsburg; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Arthur C. VanHorn; one sister, Catherine Darlington; and one brother, Diehl Wilson.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Barbara Spies-Scott will officiate. Burial will be in Central Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Amelia L. Wibberley

Amelia Lucille Wibberley, 85, of 701 Knightsbridge Drive, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at Ravenwood Nursing Home.

Born Nov. 16, 1916, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Murray and Ruth McCuen Bachtel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Wibberley Jr., in 1990.

She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Amelia L. Keener of Hagerstown; two sons, Murray E. Wibberley of Hagerstown, and J. Bryan Wibberley of Charlottesville, Va.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Kenneth S. Valentine will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.




Minnie V. Tritapoe

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Minnie Virginia Tritapoe, 94, of Alexandria, and formerly of Pleasant Valley, Md., died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at Fairfax (Va.) Nursing Center.

Born Nov. 4, 1908, in Lovettsville, Va., she was the daughter of the late John Washington and Ora Dixon Fawley.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Levin Edward Tritapoe.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Knoxville, Md., and New Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Lovettsville.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Tritapoe Silva of Alexandria.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie Graham and Ruth Baker; and one brother, George Fawley.

Services will be Saturday at noon at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Lovettsville. The Rev. Ray Michener will officiate. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Lovettsville.

The family will receive friends Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church.
