Anna L. Socks

Anna Lois Elizabeth Socks, 86, of Beverly Health Care in Hagerstown and formerly of 804 Washington Ave., died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Beverly Health Care.

Born Feb. 13, 1916, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Margie Bowers King.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Richard Socks, in 1969.

She retired in 1979 from Washington County Hospital in the housekeeping department after 20 years of employment. Earlier, she was employed by Hagerstown Rubber Co.

She was a member of Valley Grace Brethren Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Patsy Parks of Hagerstown and Betty J. Neff of Halfway; five sons, Ernest J. Socks, Robert E. Socks and Ronald L. Socks, all of Hagerstown, Leo W. Socks of Halfway and Charles H. Socks of Clear Spring; a stepdaughter, Evelyn Renner of Hagerstown; two sisters, Elva Martin of Hagerstown and Dorothy Hawbaker of Halfway; three brothers, Daniel King of Hagerstown, Glen King of Clear Spring and Tom King of Miami; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Socks, and a great-grandson.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. David Sword will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Debbie S. Eplin

Debbie S. Eplin, 38, of Summit Avenue, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 11, 1964, in Chapmanville, W.Va., she was the daughter of Betty L. Hileman Eplin of Midkiff, W.Va., and the late Hershel R. Eplin.

She was employed by Beverly Healthcare in Hagerstown.

She was a member of APA Pool League Association 8-Ball and 9-Ball.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by three sisters, Brenda L. Conley of Granite Falls, N.C., Sandy G. Porter of Branchland, W.Va., and Barbara Eplin of Midkiff, W.Va.; two brothers, Douglas Eplin of Chapmanville and Billy Eplin of Midkiff, W.Va.; nieces; nephews; and her fiance, Gary W. Benner Sr. of Hagerstown.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. Pastor Casey Strunk will officiate.

Betty J. Pumphrey

TOWSON, Md. - Betty Jo Pumphrey, 64, of Towson, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Greater Baltimore Medical Center.

Born Feb. 16, 1938, in Winchester, Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Marie Russell Sowers.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Allen "Al" R. Kibler, in 1976.

She was a 1956 graduate of Charles Town High School.

She was employed by Grauls Market in Ruxton, Md. Earlier, she and her first husband owned and operated Ranson Grocery Store in Ranson, W.Va.

She was of the Lutheran faith.

She is survived by her husband, Creston Pumphrey; a daughter, Katherine L. Rinaldi of Charles Town, W.Va.; two brothers, Robert Sowers of Winchester and Ronald Sowers of Charles Town; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. Pastor Richard E. Neal will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.

There will be no visitation.
