James Rodgers has been named The Herald-Mail's November Employee of the Month.

Rodgers, a part-time inserter in the mailroom, has been with the company for five years.

The company has also announced the promotion of two employees.

Kim Bain, design editor in the newsroom, has been named senior graphic designer in the advertising department. Bain, who has been with the company for 14 years, will oversee the activities of the advertising department's graphic artist staff.

In the sports department, Dan Kauffman has been hired as a full-time reporter. Kauffman has served the sports department in a part-time capacity for the last four years.

In part-time moves, Janet Heim has been hired as a community reporter in the newsroom and Kim Tagg as a receptionist/mail clerk in Human Resources.


Celebrating milestone anniversaries in November are: Del Spiker, pressroom, 30 years; Mia Hoover, newsroom, 15 years; Lesa Selders, newsroom, five years; and Brian Taylor, Information Systems, five years.

Bank of Charles Town

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Bank of Charles Town has hired Linda G. Wasilius of Martinsburg, W.Va., as vice president and mortgage loan officer.

Wasilius was formerly employed with Farmers & Merchants Bank and Trust/Susquehanna Mortgage in Hagerstown and First Home Mortgage in Hagerstown.

Misty N. Harder of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., has been promoted to assistant bank manager at the bank's Harpers Ferry office.

Shelly L. Holmes of Charles Town has been promoted to branch manager at the bank's Harpers Ferry office.

Hagerstown Trust

FREDERICK, Md. - Martin Atkinson IV has been named commercial banking officer for the Hagerstown Trust branch in Frederick.

Atkinson will serve customers in the Frederick County market area.

ServiceMaster Heavy Cleaning Specialists

FREDERICK, Md. - John R. Carnahan has been promoted to vice president of ServiceMaster Heavy Cleaning Specialists.

Carnahan, who has been with ServiceMaster since 1991, will oversee all aspects of operations and sales for ServiceMaster in Frederick, Washington and Montgomery counties.

D.M. Bowman

Two drivers for D.M. Bowman Inc. are finalists in the Truckload Carrier Association's 2002 Company Driver of the Year contest.

Wilbur Farver of Union Bridge, Md., has worked for Bowman since 1991. He is a Road Team driver with 1,300,576 miles under his belt.

Farver competed as a finalist last year and took home the fourth-place award.

Michael Banner of Frederick, Md., has worked for Bowman since 1989. He is a Road Team driver with 1,637,830 miles under his belt.

The winners will be announced in Orlando, Fla., in March 2003.

Hagerstown Community College

Gina Householder has joined the staff of Hagerstown Community College as a part-time clinical instructor for the radiography program.

Householder was certified in radiography in 1992 and in mammography in 1996, and is training as a special procedures technologist at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

State of Maryland

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Syd Machat, Real Estate commissioner, represented Maryland at the annual conference of the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials in Kansas City, Mo.

Machat lives in Keedysville.


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Sylvia Malysa of Brownsville, Md., has been named store manager of the Cato store in Martinsburg.

The store is in Martinsburg Mall at 800 Foxcroft Ave.
