Veterans Day events

The following Veterans Day events are planned in Washington County.

The Joint Veterans Council of Washington County will host the annual Veterans Day ceremony at Martin L. "Marty" Snook Park in Halfway at 9 a.m. Monday.

Capt. Mike Bowers, U.S. Marine Corps, will be guest speaker.
Morris Frock Unit 42, the American Legion Auxiliary, will sponsor a Veterans Day program Monday at 11 a.m. in front of the Washington County Courthouse on West Washington Street in Hagerstown.

Approximately 30 organizations will place wreaths at the memorial plaque to honor the men and women who have served America in war.
The guest speaker for the program will be Sandi Dutton, national chairman of Veteran Affairs and Rehabilitation and a candidate for national president of the American Legion Auxiliary for 2004-05.

Dutton has been state American Legion Auxiliary president.

She is a member of Greenbelt Unit 136 American Legion Auxiliary and has been an honorary life member of the unit since 1986.

She is a senior account executive with Summit-Harper of Silver Spring, Md.

A Veterans Day program will be held Monday at Hancock Middle-Senior High School.

A student assembly begins at 11 a.m. with a program by the Hancock American Legion and patriotic music by the Panther Band.

At Clear Spring High School, the annual Veterans Day assembly begins Monday at 10:45 a.m.

Homewood at Williamsport is planning a program to honor veterans Tuesday beginning at 10:30 a.m., with American Legion participation.

At 1:30 p.m., there will be a USO entertainment program.
