Three elected to Board of Education

November 06, 2002|by TARA REILLY

Incumbent Washington County Board of Education member Paul W. Bailey received the most votes of the three candidates running for the School Board in Tuesday's general election.

The other candidates were Russell Williams and Jacqueline Fischer. The School Board term is four years.

All three were guaranteed spots on the seven-member School Board because they were the only candidates running for the three open spots.

Bailey received 21,347 votes; Fischer received 20,252 votes; and Williams received 19,155 votes.

Current School Board members Mary Wilfong and J. Herbert Hardin did not run for re-election.

Hardin chose to run in the Washington County Commissioners race.

The newly elected School Board members will join the rest of the seven-member board on Dec. 3 after a swearing-in ceremony.

School Board members earn $4,800 a year.
