No. 1 Martinsburg girls advance to state semis

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Cassie Czaja scored on a penalty kick in double overtime to give the No. 1 Martinsburg Bulldogs a 2-1 win over Morgantown for their first-ever Region II title on Saturday.

Down 1-0, Martinsburg (18-2-1) tied it in the fourth period on a goal by Kacie Keesecker.

Morgantown took a 1-0 lead on Brittany Allen's third-period goal.

The Bulldogs are now set to face Parkersburg South in the state semifinals Friday at Schoenbaum Stadium in Charleston. Game time is 4 p.m. The winner plays for the state title Saturday at 3 p.m. against the Capital High-Sissonville semifinals winner.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Eric Fizer scored the game's only goal early in the third period Saturday, as the Mohigans defended their Region II title.

Martinsburg ends its season with a 15-2-3 record.


HCC 93, Rockville 81

Jay Wingate scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Hagerstown Community College men's basketball team to a 93-81 win over Rockville in the championship game of the Region XX Hall of Fame Tournament Saturday night at HCC.


Three other players hit double figures in scoring for the Hawks. Nagee Johnson had 17 points, Thomas Johnson had 16 and Gerbront Gaddy, who grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, added 11. Mike Lee had eight rebounds for HCC (2-0).
