Ralph L. Johnson Sr.

Ralph Leslie "Rocky" Johnson Sr., 65, of 899 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at his home.

Born May 26, 1937, in Mount Carroll, Ill., he was the son of Pearl Longnecker Gums of Illinois.

He retired from Grove Worldwide in 1999 after 25 years of employment.

He was a member of Sharpsburg Church of the Brethren.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Ralph L. Johnson Jr. and Martin L. Johnson, both of Hagerstown, and a grandson.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Gums.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Revs. Robert Revell and Wesley Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Blanche R. Violet

BOONSBORO - Blanche R. Metz Violet, 83, of Reeders Memorial Home and formerly of 4253 Main St., Rohrersville, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 4, 1919, in Big Pool, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Yost and Amy Ann Drury Yost Ward. She was the stepdaughter of the late Leo H. Ward.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Leon Metz, in 1960, and her second husband, Clayton E. Violet, in 1979.

She was an Avon consultant for 35 years and a member of the Avon Presidents Club. She also owned and operated antique shops in the area.

She was a member of Mount Nebo United Methodist Church in Boonsboro.

She was a member of Rohrersville Ruritan.

She is survived by three daughters, Shirley M. Thompson of Rohrersville, Barbara A. Detrow of Mapleville, Md., and Sandra D. Braun of Middletown, Md.; two sisters, Molly Marshall of Waynesboro, Pa., and Hazel Myers of State Line, Pa.; five brothers, John T. Ward of Williamsport, the Rev. Clyde D. Ward of Sharpsburg, Alfred G. Ward of Boonsboro and Harry L. Ward and James H. Ward, both of Keedysville; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 23 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Wilma J. Kretzer; a son, Preston L. Metz; three sisters, Mary C. Yost, Julia Myers and Sally Milburn; a brother, Chester M. Yost; and a great-grandson.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro. The Rev. Robert G. Brennan Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Samples Manor Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




George E. Cole Jr.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - George E. Cole Jr., 55, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born Oct. 28, 1947, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of George E. Cole Sr. and Mary F. Knight Cole.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta Clopper Cole; a daughter, Tracey Stotler of Martinsburg; two sons, George E. Cole III and Anthony Berry, both of Martinsburg; six sisters, Deardra Rascoe of Gainsboro, Tenn., and Susan Cole, Sandra Walls, Loretta Lewis, Tammy Wright and Mary Cole, all of Martinsburg; three brothers, Raymond S. Cole, Larry J. Cole and D. David Cole, all of Martinsburg; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Monday at 12:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. Pastor Chris Butler will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Rosie A. Reeder

Rosie A. Reeder, 74, of 71 Madison Ave., Hagerstown, who died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, is survived by 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Charles C. Reeder; a sister, Pearl Moats; and two brothers, William Whorton II and Raymond Whorton.




Judith A. Olson-Black-Campbell

Judith Aleen Cogar Olson-Black-Campbell, 55, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 27, 1947, in Weston, W.Va., she was the daughter of Delmar G. Perrines of West Virginia and the late Edith Cogar Norman.

She was a member of Abundant Life Tabernacle in Hagerstown.

In addition to her father, she is survived by two daughters, Judy Olson of Hagerstown and Della Jackson of Conococheague; five sons, Kenny Black II, Robert Olson, Johnnie Olson and Roger Olson, all of Hagerstown, and Delmar Olson Jr. of Germany; five sisters; two brothers, 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services and burial will be private.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - C. Robert "Bob" Ziegler, 62, of 430 Cleveland Ave., died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.
