Sarah E. Gerberich

Sarah E. Gerberich, 87, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 31, 1915, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William Oscar and Cora Bowers Cunningham and stepmother Mary Davis Cunningham.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Gerberich, in 1998.

She was employed by the Hagerstown Shoe Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1980.

She attended Hagerstown Church of the Brethren where she was a member of United Workers Sunday school class.

She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion.

She is survived by four nieces, Joan Mankins of Charlottesville, Va., Paula Foster of Jacksonville, Fla., Gloria Shatzer of Hagerstown and Kathy Longstaff of Springfield, Mo.; a nephew, Lester I. Cunningham of Waynesboro, Pa.; great-nieces; great-nephews; great-great-nieces; and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, William S. Cunningham and Luther I. Cunningham.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home. The Rev. Edward L. Polling will officiate. Burial will be in Funkstown Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, 15 S. Mulberry St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.




Richard M. Wallech

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Richard M. "Dick" Wallech, 63, of 9911 Browns Mill Road, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, of a heart attack while working on Cider Press Road in Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Aug. 16, 1939, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Luther M. and Mary E. Reyer Wallech.

He was a 1958 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School.

He was employed by the Nitterhouse Family in Chambersburg as a maintenance technician.

He was a member of Otterbein United Brethren Church in Greencastle.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army stationed in Alaska.

He is survived by a sister, Mary W. Owen of McDonough, Ga.; an aunt; a step-niece; and a step-nephew.

He was preceded in death by a nephew.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle. The Rev. Martin H. Horn will officiate. Burial will be in Stenger Hill Cemetery, Fort Loudon, Pa.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




William H. Herbert

William Harold "Herbie" Herbert, 60, of Hagerstown, who died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, also is survived by a nephew.




Carl C. Wishard

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Carl Chritzman Wishard, 77, of Chambersburg, who died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, retired from the personnel department of Fairchild Republic/Rohr Industries as supervisor of human resources. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is survived by a daughter, Vonnie Reese of Greencastle, Pa.




Dorothy M. Thompson

FREDERICK, Md. - Dorothy Mae Thompson, 83, of Frederick, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frederick.

Born April 14, 1919, in Frederick, she was the daughter of Jarrett Emory and Lillie Mae Boyer. She was a foster daughter, raised by the late Harry and Dairy Winpigler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lester Thompson Sr., in 1990.

Prior to her retirement as a supervisor, she had been employed by H.L. Hartz and Co. in Frederick for more than 50 years.

She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick.

She is survived by a son, Charles L. Thompson Jr. of Frederick; two granddaughters, Dawn M. Henline of Boonsboro and Stephanie L. Abrecht of Frederick; five great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Stockman, Pauline Smith and Clara Melina, and a brother, James E. Boyer.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick. The Rev. Stacey L. Brady will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.




Rosie A. Reeder

Rosie A. Reeder, 74, of 71 Madison Ave., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home.

Born Oct. 26, 1928, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William Arthur and Lena Pearl Nichols Whorton.

She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Riley C. Reeder; two daughters, Shirley J. Bussard and Deborah K. Dieterich, both of Clear Spring; two sons, Paul W. Reeder and Robert L. Reeder, both of Hagerstown; a sister, Frances Stottlemyer of Hagerstown; a brother, Roy Whorton of Hagerstown; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Bill Clark will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Douglas C. Hartlove

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Douglas Craig "Doug" Hartlove, 36, of Shenandoah Junction, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at his home.
