Gary W. Brandenburg

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Gary Wayne Brandenburg, 54, of East Main Street, died of a massive heart attack Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 16, 1948, in Middletown, he was the son of Rudolph S. and Evelyn Ropp Brandenburg of Middletown.

He was a 1967 graduate of Middletown High School and a 1969 graduate of Frederick Community College.

He was employed by Frederick County Public Schools for 10 years, at Middletown Elementary School and currently at Deer Crossing Elementary School as lead custodian. He had worked for Harry Ramsburg Construction Co. and with his father in the painting business for 20 years as Rudolph S. Brandenburg and Son.

He served in the Maryland Army National Guard and saw active duty during the Vietnam War.

He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church Zion in Middletown, served on committees, the church council, was the Zion Sunday Church School treasurer and chairman of the cemetery board.

He was a member and secretary of Monocacy Rose Society of Frederick; was a consulting rosarian for the American Rose Society and won awards showing his roses in competitions.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Donna Jean Plunkard Brandenburg; one daughter, Kristi L. Frizzell of Middletown; one sister, Terri J. Talbott of Frederick; one granddaughter; one niece; aunts; uncles and cousins.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown. The Revs. Donald L. Turley and William M. Bucher will officiate. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the church. Visitation also will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Cemetery Board, 107 W. Main St., Middletown, MD 21769.

Ida L. Foltz

KNOXVILLE, Md. - Ida Lee Foltz, 89, formerly of 1416 Jefferson Pike, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at Reeder's Memorial Home, Boonsboro.

Born Oct. 9, 1913, in Cumbo, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Allen and Laura Mae Riner Eversole.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry E. Foltz, in 1990.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Burkittsville, Md.

She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 79.

She is survived by five daughters, Patricia M. Pry of Burkittsville, Shirley I. Ridgeway and Rose L. Barger, both of Jefferson, and Donna J. Wenner and Delores A. Axline, both of Knoxville; one son, Eugene P. Foltz of Jefferson; 21 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Merrill Foltz; four sisters; four brothers and two grandsons.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Burkittsville. The Rev. Kimberly Weitzel will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Burkittsville.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, Middletown, Md. Visitation also will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church.

William H. Herbert

William Harold "Herbie" Herbert, 60, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Feb. 12, 1942, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Daniel William and Dorothy Louise Ruthrauff Herbert.

He was a 1960 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.

He was employed in sales by Jamison Cold Storage Door Co. in Hagerstown. He had worked for Frederick Plantronics Co.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He was a member of Haven Lutheran Church in Hagerstown, and attended Bethel United Methodist Church in Chewsville.

He was a member of MENSA Society and Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion of Hagerstown.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Minnick Herbert; one daughter, Christina Curfman of Ashburn, Va.; two sons, Randall E. Herbert of Hagerstown and Kevin D. Herbert of Newport Beach, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Tammy Michaels of Bel Air, Md.; one stepson, J. Edward Lefferts of Smithsburg; one brother, James M. Herbert of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport. The Rev. John W. Schildt will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

The family will receive friends Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Roger L. Barney

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Roger Lee Barney, 58, of Berkeley Springs, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.
