October 30, 2002|by MARLO BARNHART

Organizers say the 2002 CROP Walk in southern Washington County was a success.

Eighty walkers who participated in the Oct. 13 walk raised approximately $4,500, according to Roger Burtner, chairman of this year's walk.

They followed three routes. About 40 began at Benevola United Methodist Church, another 38 started at the old C&O Canal headquarters near Shepherdstown, W.Va., and a dozen began at Bethel United Methodist Church in Rohrersville.

In 2001, 62 walkers raised $ 3,533.

One-fourth of the money raised goes to the Washington County Food Bank at Trinity Lutheran Church of Boonsboro.

CROP/Church World Service aids needy people in more than 80 countries, including the United States.
