Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"I read a very interesting article in The Daily Mail on Oct. 24 on Page A2. It was all about the West Nile problem being over for this year. In this article, they went on to tell us that the mosquitos are dormant after the first hard freeze, but next year, the problem will be back again. At the end of the article was a very interesting statement and it really hit me that this is true. Tires are a breeding ground for mosquitos. Until I read that article, I never thought about it. Do you know how many houses and properties have old tires lying around the properties? They are laying out in bushes and in people's yards, mostly because people don't know where or how to dispose of them."

"I would appreciate anyone's help on who to write and where to write for a copy of a 1946 Army discharge from the 671st Tank Destroyer Division in South Pacific Theatre. Thank you."

"We would like to say a special thank you to a special guy who repaired our steps on Thursday, Oct. 24. You know who you are. Thank you very much."

"To Chief Moose from Montgomery County: If you get tired of working down there, please come up to Hagerstown, we will welcome you very much."

"I want to thank Wal-Mart employees and the young man and two ladies who helped a lady who fell down with her cane. Everyone was very prompt, very nice and helpful. They walked her to her car and had someone follow her home to make sure that she got home all right. I again would like to thank all the employees and our good neighbors. Thank God, that we still have some people who care about the older people. Thanks very much."

"If Kathleen Kennedy Townsend is really against criminals, she should have her uncle Ted Kennedy locked up. His car has killed more people than my guns."

"I want to congratulate our state police for catching the shooter. They were top gun and I want to congratulate all of them."

"For all the people who seem to be so concerned about your civil liberties and always crying about infringement. You are part of the reason why this country is in the shape it is in now. Because the police's hands have been tied, you don't want them doing anything that would infringe on anyone's rights. We have let people come in and run all over this country, ones that don't belong here. They have more rights than we do. There are millions of them in this country right now and how many of those people do you think are dishonest and would betray the United States, quite a few of them, even people who are already citizens of the United States. So to all the people who are so worried about civil liberties and telling the police to watch what they do, you better open your eyes or all of your liberties will be taken from you."

"I would like to ask the person who put in information of where to write an get a copy of your discharge from the service. My husband was in the Army and we would like an address."

"I think each of us should give a big sigh of relief and bow our heads in thanks that the sniper suspects were caught because they were definitely headed our way. It's a God's blessing that they were caught."

- Halfway

"In response to Funkstown Fire Hall food service for Old Tyme Christmas. Funkstown Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting the food sale, as they did last year. They didn't close the kitchen early last year, they sold out of food last year, they had quite a large response, compared to the year before that. This year they will be open again, for dinner, and we will have as much food as possible, but when the food is sold out, it's sold out. It's much better than having extra food and not selling it."

"As I listen Thursday morning, having a sleepless night, to the capture of the snipers. I am telling you that the state police deserve a lot of credit. Everyone should be grateful to these police officers, they are very professional."

"I am tired of hearing about all these senators and politicians saying that we should go to war with Iraq. If we do go to war, not one single politician will go. They will all be over here, safe and sound, sleeping in their own beds at night, while other people's sons, daughters, husbands and grandsons will be over there fighting for this country and getting killed."
