Fund started for hurt Thurmont officer

FREDERICK, Md. - A fund has been set up to aid a Thurmont police officer who was seriously injured in an accident Thursday while pursuing what he believed was an armed robbery suspect.

The Fraternal Order of Police, Francis Scott Key Lodge 91, is conducting the drive to assist Officer Rick White and his family which includes his wife, who is expecting a child in March, and their 7-year-old daughter.

White struck a tree during the pursuit and was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. His condition Monday night was listed as serious, hospital officials said.

Those wishing to contribute may do so at any BB&T Bank or by sending donations to Fraternal Order of Police, Francis Scott Key Lodge 91, P.O. Box 808, Frederick, MD. 21705, directing the money to the "White fund."

The White family will receive 100 percent of the money donated, according to an FOP statement.
