You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"Ames Department Store on the Dual Highway is now closed. I would like to thank the friendly employees of that store for their long service to the community. We will really miss you."

"Every time I hear a liberal politician say they will respect the rights of Maryland gun owners, I run out and stock up on guns and ammo because I know more restrictive gun laws are on the way."

"I am responding to the Mail Caller who said that it was very sad to read in the paper about the rate of animals put to sleep at the Humane Society. I am a very loving person and I love animals dearly. I tried on three occasions to adopt more than one pet from the Humane Society and every time I tried to adopt one, they gave me a lame excuse as to why I couldn't have one. This is why people can't adopt a pet. I live on six acres of ground, all fenced in. They have acres and acres of land to run around on. They would be well cared for and they wouldn't be abused at all. I have several friends who wanted to buy pets too but they turned them down too for no apparent reason. Please, someone find out why they are doing this."

"To the person who wants to stop smoking. There are plenty of ways to stop. I know of one way that truly works. Some people will laugh at this, but if you really want to quit, trust and believe in Doctor Jesus. I know for a fact that He can and will take the addiction of smoking from you if you will pray and believe. He did it for me. It's almost been four years now and I have never had the desire to want or touch another cigarette. Praise Him, He answers prayers."

"I am calling about the Hagerstown Surgical Center at Robinwood. They recently had a longtime patient who passed away and had no family. They closed their office that afternoon, so the whole office could attend his funeral. I thought this was very commendable for all of these doctors to think that much of their patient. We need more doctors like this in our area."

"In response to the person complaining about the flags being up at Clear Spring Elementary School. What do you care? Why does it bother you so much? The school is showing support for their country and being patriotic. In case you have forgotten, last year there were a lot of problems and fear in this country. I think it's nice that there are still some patriotic people left in this world. If you don't like it, then maybe you would like to move to Afghanistan."

"I really don't have a problem with the flags being up at Clear Spring Elementary School."

- Clear Spring

"To the person complaining about the flags at Clear Spring Elementary School. Not that it really bothers you or takes a minute out of your life, but I live in Clear Spring, too, and I think it's nice that they are up all the time. If you really want them down, then why don't you go out to the school and take them down yourself? I am sure that the police would like to talk to you after you do."

- Clear Spring

"Call Clear Spring Elementary School and complain to them about the flags."

"You never know what you are going to find in your mail. Here came a letter from the Ehrlich campaign and when I opened it up, there was a card for Bob Bruchey. I already e-mailed Mr. Ehrlich. I already told him that he can forget about me voting for him if he endorses Bob Bruchey. I wonder how many other people were offended out there when they received that letter? I don't think Mr. Ehrlich knows how disliked Mr. Bruchey is in this town."

"Way to go, Jim Brown. I like the way you are involving the citizens in the election process. That is a refreshing approach in the political arena. Keep your position campaign going by not criticizing your opponents. Good job, Jim."

"I think they should get this psychic Sylvia Browne. Maybe she could help catch this sniper. I am half afraid to go outside anymore."

"I think they should cancel the Halloween parade until the sniper is caught for the safety of the children and their families who participate in the parade."

"The Disability Awareness article in Sunday's Lifestyle section was excellent. I just have one question, the Guillan-Barr Syndrome that Mr. Neville has, can someone call in and state what causes this Guillan-Barr Syndrome? Where does it come from?"

"If anyone needs two good reasons to vote against Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, here they are. Bill and Hillary Clinton."
