One person was killed and two were seriously injured in the head-on collision of a BMW and a Ford pick-up truck Wednesday night in the 20200 block of Mt. Aetna Road near the entrance to Black Rock Golf Course.

Shortly after the 8:31 p.m. accident, a Maryland State Police medevac helicopter arrived to transport the occupant of the car to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, said Capt. Doug Mullendore of the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The identity and condition of that person were unavailable Wednesday night.

One occupant of the pickup truck was rushed to Washington County Hospital by Community Rescue Service personnel, a nursing supervisor confirmed late Wednesday. No information was available on that patient's condition or identity.

The other occupant of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene, Mullendore said.

"We are now marking the distances and getting measurements so we can return (Thursday) and continue the investigation," Mullendore said at 11:10 p.m. by telephone from the scene.

Funkstown Fire Department personnel responded to the scene along with CRS personnel.

The first caller reported one vehicle overturned and the other with an occupant ejected, dispatchers at Washington County Fire and Rescue Communications said.

No further information was available Wednesday night at press time.
