Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"I live in a local Hagerstown apartment building. I have roaches everywhere. Over the last week, there was a wonderful homemade bait tip in Heloise and it is supposed to clear out roaches. She had a recipe in there for this homemade bait. I did exactly what she said, I put the baits out on Friday, two days later, dead roaches everywhere. That was the best tip I had ever seen. I am now giving the roach tip on how to make this bait to all my neighbors. If anyone would like the recipe, just let me know."

"Heloise had a wonderful tip in Friday's paper, it was how to get rid of pesky roaches. I tried it and within two days I had dead roaches everywhere. It was a quarter cup of bacon drippings or shortening, an eighth cup of sugar, eight ounces of boric acid powder and a half cup of flour. Mix all together into a dough ball, put little dough balls in plastic bags, so they don't dry out and place all around the house. I tell you, I tried it and within two days, dead roaches everywhere."

"My name is Kristi and after some of the complaints that people put in here about service in the area. I just wanted to let everyone know about the great service I received. I had a lot of bills and wanted to refinance them, after contacting a few mortgage companies that wouldn't give me the time of day. I found a very nice person, I know I can't give out the company name, but the person that helped me was just wonderful. He answered all my questions, gave me the loan to help pay off my bills, saved me over $400 a month. He was just a Godsend. After I did the loan, he asked me if I had any friends that needed help. Well Dave, I told you that I would tell my friends about you, I did. Dave is a diamond in the rough, definitely. He gave me the best service in treating me like a person. "

"Can anyone tell me why the Washington County Board of Education is paying an employee overtime to mow grass at the school? I recently witnessed this on a Sunday. Overtime should only be paid out for a necessity, not to mow grass. This is a waste of the Washington County taxpayers' money. This should be stopped immediately."

"I would like to thank the person in the white SUV who hit my pickup truck on West Maple Street in Funkstown about 2 a.m. Friday night. It only cost me $250 deductible out of my own pocket. There was only $1,000 worth of damage. I hope that there was more damage to your vehicle and I hope that your insurance will go up as well as mine. If you feel guilty, call 301-992-2449 and fess up. If you don't feel guilty, maybe the good Lord will forgive you on Judgment Day."

"This is about shopping carts in the stores, children should not be standing up in shopping carts. There has been more head traumas with shopping carts. Don't let them in there and walk down an aisle with your back to them, this is a good opportunity for them to fall."

"I want to comment on the dress code for the school staff that someone called into Mail Call the other day. One of the local schools in Hagerstown, the vice principal wears a golf shirt to school every day. This is very inappropriate. There are also principals and secretaries that bring in dogs and keep them in their offices. I would think this is against the code also."

"To the person who wants to quit smoking and can't afford the patches. Call the Health Department for their Stop Smoking Program. They will help you stop and they will give you free patches."

"In response to the person who wanted to know where to send box tops for education. Lincolnshire Elementary collects box tops and that money goes to help support materials for the classrooms. You can mail them to the school or drop them off at the school."

"If there is anyone who lost a school ring, call 301-393-9154 and describe it. I have it and would like to give it to the person who lost it."

"I want to say a huge thank you to nurse Diane at the Hagerstown Free Clinic. It is nice to walk now that I have shoes that help my ankles. Also a huge thanks to each one of them in there. Nadine, chapter nurse, Gloria at the desk and the little sweet lady who said she is 70 and makes everyone smile. I miss Becky so much and I hope she is soon better and back in there. I am one of the patients who come in every month. I don't remember everyone's name, but everyone in there is so wonderful."

"I would like to thank the person who took the time to call in with information concerning where to write to get a copy of my discharge from the Navy. Thanks a lot."
