Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"Can anyone tell me why the Hagerstown City Police Department did away with the downtown foot squad? With all the crime down here, something needs to be done. They need to bring it back or maybe Chief Smith needs to have a meeting with the residents and business owners to come up with a solution. Something really needs to be done."

"Someone should tell the Smithsburg Boy Scouts and anyone else that you don't trim the American flag with anything."

"Could someone answer this for me? The National Association of Chiefs of Police, should we contribute to this? Give me some information, please."

"I was wondering what ever happened to the Kiwanis of Hagerstown. I can't find the number in the phone book and it's not listed. Are they still in operation?"

"I was very sad to read in the paper about the rate of animals put to sleep at the Humane Society. I have a cat that is part of my family and I love all animals dearly. It's a shame that people can't learn to love animals. They have big hearts, too. I just wish that people would be more responsible and lovable so the animals don't end up at the Humane Society to be put to sleep."

"I want to know whose idea it was to put these bricks across the road that are collapsing now? It is going to cost us taxpayers more money to repair now. Looks nice, but it didn't work."

"I must say that I am very sorry to lose my paper delivery person, Russell. He works other jobs besides the paper and he was a very nice paper person."

"I am a Williamsport resident and I think that some of the history of the town has been lost. I wonder, does anyone else over there remember how Springfield Farm was when you could go into the Spring House? Anyone could go in and get the spring water in there."

"All these experts on TV about the sniper killings are making me see how dumb and naive people are. They are all saying about his expert marksmanship. Well, anyone that is a deer hunter knows that you can zero in on a target from 100 yards with no problem at all. He is not an expert, he is a coward hiding out there waiting on someone to be in slow motion or standing still, like someone pumping gas or someone bending over in their car. He is not shooting someone on the run, he is not anyone, he is a coward. He is probably someone who is upset at society for some reason, like they all are. He will get his. If I was a cop, he would get his."

"I have called numerous times before about the flags being up constantly at Clear Spring Elementary. This is the weekend and they are still up. I think the principal should do something about this. It's being lazy, nobody in Clear Spring seems to notice it either. This is pure ignorance and this job needs to be taken care of."

"I believe the people of Halfway would like to know just what Greg Snook has done to reduce the sewer debt?"

"Greg Snook said that he would fund education from tax revenues from new businesses. But the county gives new businesses tax breaks. So how would this help?"

"I think the sniper that is doing the shooting, is just some kind of decoy. While the police and people are occupied with this, the terrorists are planning something more horrendous. We will find this out later on, I guess."
