SHARPSBURG -The Sharpsburg Town Council voted unanimously Monday night to adopt Washington County's Animal Control Ordinance with some amendments in wording.

The ordinance becomes effective in the town today because the Town Council voted it in as an emergency.

"Unless we pass something ... the county will always have the excuse not to come down here," Councilman Ralph Hammond said.

The other municipalities in Washington County already adopted the ordinance.

The Washington County Humane Society enforces the ordinance.
