R&R Trim wins ASA national tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - R&R Trim didn't believe in doing anything easily or quietly.

The Hagerstown-based softball team came back from a two-game deficit in a best-of-5 series with Team Miken with emphasis by scoring 20 runs in the first inning of the championship game for a 31-22 victory and the ASA Class B World Series championship last weekend.

R&R Trim, managed by Dick Montgomery, finished the year with a 94-26 record en route to winning their league, the state and two national bracket tournament titles to go along with the national World Series. R&R qualified for the ASA World Series by winning the East Nationals in Valdosta, Ga. last month.

R&R Trim dropped the first two games to the St. Paul, Minn., team by scores of 13-1 and 28-27 before coming back for wins of 30-27 and 29-24 to force the final game.

Team Miken opened the fifth game by scoring a run in the top of the first before R&R opened the decisive onslaught.

R&R Trim was led by Kevin Breckenridge, Mick Byers, Jeff Reynolds, Bill Bakner, Rocky Wills, John Fowler, John Hartle, Jerome Patterson, Brett Livingston, Glenn Hines and Alan Harsh all hit more than .600.

For winning the title, R&R Trim was awarded $5,000 of Easton equipment along with plaques and jackets from the ASA.
